What should I bring?
Most studios where I teach have props you can borrow. There are also usually mats to borrow or rent, though it is recommended to bring your own. If you want to bring a water bottle or towel to wipe your brow you can.
What should I wear?
Wear well-fitting, stretchy exercise clothes that allow you to sweat and move. Baggy T-shirts usually get in the way. Use something to tie your hair back.
When should I arrive?
I would encourage you to give yourself enough time to calmly be able to arrive in class, put your mat down, and relax a minute before class. Please don’t come in late or leave early.
Is yoga religious? Will taking yoga interfere with my religion?
While yoga’s lineage is from Hinduism, and you can find all manner of classes that reflect the faith side of yoga more intensely, I want folks of all religions or no religion to feel welcome at my classes. We will not pray to any god, and I truly believe that any way you worship in private will not be conflicted in my yoga classes. That said, I do believe that yoga helps us explore questions of who we are, what we are doing here, how to work with the unknown, and how to live a meaningful life.
What if I have an injury?
Please tell me if you have an injury, and I can modify poses for you accordingly. Many pains and some injuries can be accommodated, but whether or not it is safe for you practice is up to you and your doctor.
Yoga is a humanist system to learn how to treat yourself and others better.
Yoga is a way of learning to stay present through the use of movement, breath, behavior, focus, and meditation.
